Rapeseed is grown as an oil crop for the production of vegetable oil, which is used mainly in the food industry, but also for the production of rapeseed methyl ester – biodiesel. The history of rapeseed oil dates back more than 2000 years. During the middle ages, rapeseed oil was widely used for lighting, lubrication and soap production. In the 19th century, rapeseed oil began to be used as lubricant for steam engines.
